Animal Box Office Collection Day 2: Ranbir Kapoor's Film 'Goes Wild'

ANIMAL maintained strong collections on the last day of its second week with 8.50 crore nett taking its second week total to a phenomenal 129.50 crore nett. This total could have been higher but the Sunday did not perform as it could have.

The second week numbers of the film are the third highest ever beating the likes of JAWAN and DANGAL and if that Sunday had added well, it could have beaten GADAR 2. The two week total of the film is 418.50 crore nett and a good hold is crucial for a 500 crore nett total. This mark would be locked if the competition in week four was not so huge.

There have many directors from the South coming making a mark in the Hindi film industry but generally the films had that South feel or you can say were different from the way the films made by the Bombay makers looked. No doubt some of these did very well especially in the 60's but it was more to do with the huge male stars in them

The last import from the South to have an impact was Ram Gopal Verma. However, his films were restricted heavily to Mumbai circuit. You cant say they had a South feel but mainly did business in Mumbai circuit with the underworld et al. Here you have a director from the South who is making more North Indian films than the makers from the Hindi film industry and this is with both ANIMAL and KABIR SINGH.

ANIMAL had the the third highest second week of all time behind BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION and GADAR 2 but the way it had held up on the second Friday, it looked like it may set a new second week record. However, some fatigue probably set in through the week as eventually its an Adult so does mean a it misses out on a certain audience.

The film became the sixth film to hit a century in week two and four of them now are post pandemic while before the pandemic there were only two films above the 100 crore nett mark in week two and they were BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION and DANGAL.

The results post the pandemic mean that now the 150 crore nett second week is on whereas before the pandemic the 100 crore nett mark was a huge target. Obviously you need the film but better results in Mumbai circuit should see the 150 crore nett mark breached by the right film.

The difference between BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION and the others is the huge Mumbai performance. In week two, BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION had a huge 51 crore nett plus in Mumbai circuit while GADAR 2 had around 37 crore nett. ANIMAL will also be similar to GADAR 2.
