READY FOR A
SOLO-HEROINE
FILM IF IT’S
WRITTEN WELL

Hema Malini is quite active when it comes to dancing. In fact, the actor’s recent classical dance recital at the Raas Mahotsav in Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) caught a lot of attention. While her fans wonder when they would get to see her in a film, Malini has an answer: “I am very keen to do films. But I don’t have a hero opposite me.”

In the past, the actor has done films such as Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), which she carried entirely on her shoulders. But the 75-year-old, who began her acting career in 1968 with Sapno Ka Saudagar, adds, “Aisa koi role likhe toh mere liye! Main toh karne ke liye taiyaar hoon. I am from that period in the 1970s and 1980s when films were shot so beautifully. Aaj kal OTT aur baaki jagah pe kahin bhi natural lighting banake shoot kar lete hain. I don’t know whether I will fit in that.”

Malini, who was last seen in the film Shimla Mirchi (2020), feels shoots were more passion-driven earlier. “I was watching Johny Mera Naam (1970) recently and realized that the outdoor shoot was done so artistically. They used to take so much pain to come up with such terrific shots. If the heroine looked beautiful, they made sure her beauty increased twofold on screen. They would transport the audience to another world. Aaj kal kahan hota hai aisa?,” the actor signs off.
