GANAPATH collected a horrible 2.25 crore nett on day one and that is it for it as an action film cannot afford to open at such a low level. In fact no film made at this level can afford to open to such low levels. The business of the film was dull across the board and that includes singles screens which do better for action films. In fact, the collections of the main multiplexes look better than the single screens.

In the mass circuits like Rajasthan and CI, GANAPATH was just 10-15% higher than what LEO (Hindi) collected on its opening day (Thursday) while CP Berar and Bihar were actually lower than LEO (Hindi). That pretty much tells the story as LEO is a dubbed Tamil film without national chains which itself does not have much value in the Hindi circuits.

GANAPATH is one of those UK rebate films and so many of these are made from small films to bigger films where a 25 crore film is shown to be made for 40 crore and a 125 crore film will be shown to be made for 200 crore so the numbers work out with non theatrical and the big rebate. But if we look at the last ten years how many of these UK rebate films have actually worked theatrically and outside the HOUSEFULL series, its hard to recall any. There may be one or two here or there but it is very minimal against the number of films made in the UK and it is all done for the rebate. Eventually results like this hurt the talent involved in the film.

GANAPATH was a dead duck form the trailer as films like this have to open have 15 crore nett to have a chance of getting a good result at the box office. Here the film has opened to under 2.50 crore nett and even if it managed 5 cr nett plus number which it should have due due to the action, it would hardly have made a difference.

The other release of the week was YAARIYAN 2 which was also dull at around 35 lakh nett but that 35 lakh nett actually looks worth more than the 2.25 crore nett of GANAPATH considering the size of the films.

This sort of initial where an action film may hardly collect 10 lakhs nett in a mass circuit like CI pretty much seals the fate of the film. There is not much that can be done when this genre does not open. Tiger Shroff post BAAGHI 2 in 2018 had the potential to go anywhere as he excelled in the genre but a lack of releases and the ones that come being weak compared to BAAGHI 2 cost him. Now with HEROPANTI 2 and GANAPATH, the initials are down to very low levels.

It can be said films like RUNWAY 34, SELFIEE and MISSION RANIGANJ have opened like this also but there the stars are established and the films are not in the action genre. All is not lost yet but if one or two more go like HEROPANTI 2 and GANAPATH for Tiger Shroff, then resurrection would be near impossible.
