Two legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth will reunite, for the latter’s 170th feature film. The last time the two icons shared screen space was in the 1991 film Hum.
While details of the film, tentatively titled Thalaivar 170, have been kept under wraps, we’ve learnt that Bachchan “has given 20 days to the makers” to shoot. A source adds, “He is being paid around Rs. 12 to Rs. 15 crore. It is still unsure how his character has been weaved into the story, but we can expect a social message through the film and Bachchan’s character.”
This collaboration can be significant for the Hindi and Tamil film industries. A source says, “Bachchan has a fan following and his name brings a lot of credibility to the project. [His presence in the film] makes it a pan-India movie. The film will be a magnum opus and will give people an idea of what it looks like when two actors, of this stature, come together.”
The film will be directed by T J Gnanavel. They have begun shooting in Kerala. While it was reported that Rajinikanth will play a cop, who battles fake encounters in the film, our sources tell us otherwise, ”The film is about the education system and how it has been corrupted. Big shots have made education into a business and the common man suffers.”
