Radhika Apte’s accent became a hot topic after clips from a recent interview started making the rounds on social media. But the actor, who stays in London for the most part of the year, doesn’t fret about the murmurs. Instead, she finds it amusing that people find the time to “comment on anything and everything”.

“First of all, I don’t read anything [about myself on social media]. So, I am not aware about such things. Secondly, I find it quite funny. I don’t take it personally,” the 37-year-old tells us, adding, “I have realised, especially looking at social media, that people have a lot of time to comment on everything.”

The Mrs Undercover actor, who is married to British musician Benedict Taylor, admits that at times, she does struggle with her accent since she’s been ”living in the UK for the last 12 years”.

She elaborates, “For the last few years, I have lived in London more than I’ve lived in India. So, my accent is [like that]. In England, I don’t get roles unless my accent is completely English. I have to really work hard to get that right. I still can’t do an English accent, but I’m trying, I practise and work on it. And when I am in India, I can’t have an English accent. So, sometimes, when I am talking, things do get mixed up. For instance, if I’ve lived in London for three months and then come to India for my interviews, my accent is more English.”

While she is aware and conscious of her accent, Apte finds the social media conversation around it “funny”. “I don’t give a sh** about these things. In fact, I find them quite entertaining,” she wraps up.
