The Tamil film JAILER is heading for the 300 crore nett mark in all formats with the business standing at around 275 crore nett in twelve days. The film will join the few films from the South that have crossed the 300 crore nett mark in India. The biggest film from the Tamil film industry is 2.0 which crossed the 400 crore nett mark but that was mainly due to the Hindi version racking up very good numbers of 175 crore nett plus.
Infact most of the 300 crore nett films from the South industries have done good to great business in Hindi. This will probably be the first one to hit the benchmark with little or no support from Hindi. The home market of Tamil Nadu is also BLOCKBUSTER but may have been better as it will probably remain the second best there after PONNIYIN SELVAN - PART 1 which did over 170 crore nett. JAILER is at 125 crore nett in Tamil Nadu so far and will probably beat the 145 crore of VIKRAM but not PONNIYIN SELVAN - PART 1.
The last few Rajinikanth films have opened well enough but not gone on but JAILER has set the record straight. The film has huge collections overseas as it stood at around $20 million after its second weekend. A year or so back, Rajinikanth was the only male lead from the Tamil film industry to have 300 crore films worldwide but films like VIKRAM and the PONNIYIN SELVAN series also made it into this 300 crore bracket recently and in fact took that benchmark higher. JAILER has beaten these films as it heads towards a 550 crore worldwide total. Now with 2.0 and JAILER, Rajinikanth again has the two biggest Tamil films be it in India or Worldwide.
The approx. circuit numbers for JAILER in India are as follows. The numbers are for 12 days.
Tamil Nadu - 1,25,00,00,000 apprx
Nizam / Andhra - 58,50,00,000 apprx
Karnataka / Mysore - 43,00,00,000 apprx
Kerala - 40,00,00,000 apprx
Hindi Circuits - 8,00,00,000 apprx (all languages)
TOTAL - 2,74,50,00,000 apprx
