Varanasi: The untimely death of Nitin Desai—the celebrated art director of films like ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Jodhaa Akbar’—has landed the Varanasi administration, particularly the Kashi Vishwanath Dham (KVD) authorities, in a fix as he was behind the light and sound shows running on Ganga Dwar and walls of Lalita and Jalasen Ghats in the city. Besides, he was also instrumental in holding digital shows at the Kashi Vishwanath Dham museum.

Divisional commissioner and chairman of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Special Area Development Board, Kaushal Raj Sharma, confirmed that Desai was associated with the project of light and sound show being run at Ganga Dwar and adjoining ghats and had visited the city on Saturday. “Desai had also been working on the digital shows proposed to run in Varanasi gallery of KV Dham,” said Sharma.

He said, “During Desai’s recent visit here, his attention was drawn towards the sound quality of the light and sound show at Ganga Dwar and he had also assured to improve the volume for more clarity.”

Regarding the impact of Desai’s death on the ongoing projects, Sharma said, “Desai’s team members would be contacted soon to know how these projects would move forward.” Officials said, “Desai was planning to start working on the next project of preparing thematic light and sound show to all the ghats where big walls are available for screening.”
