GADAR 2 continues to do strong business as it collected 10 crore nett plus on its second Wednesday though some of the mass centres are coming off their extremely high levels post Monday. The film now has a total collection of 407 crore nett apprx.

The second week is heading for a total of 134 crore nett which will be the second highest ever after BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONLCUSION. The third Friday is crucial if the film is to hit the 500 crore nett benchmark as its facing competition unlike last week.

There is no doubt that the film will be the biggest grosser ever in the mass Hindi speaking states and beat whichever film holds the record be it PATHAAN, BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONLCUSION or KGF - CHAPTER 2. This is likely to start to happen in the third weekend itself.

The film has bought back the glory of Hindi cinema as the Hindi belts rack up crazy numbers. This is where India lives as can be seen by the population of UP, Rajasthan, Bihar, MP etc. When the numbers came from these areas back in time, they were held back with huge taxes due to which the industry never really benefited. Now, when those taxes are much less, the sort of cinema made over the last twenty years and infrastructure in some states did not keep up with time. This meant the numbers not matching the population.

The biggest HITS in recent times in these mass pockets have been from the South (BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONLCUSION and KGF - CHAPTER 2) and GADAR 2 will go past these films in the core Hindi belts. As there as so many states to cover for Hindi films, the mass also differs in different circuits. In Maharashtra, GADAR 2 will remain below the South Indian films. Its like going back to the old days when a COOLIE (1983) stays below a HIMMATWALA (1983) in Maharashtra and a SHARAABI (1984) stays below a TOHFA (1984) and MAQSAD (1984) in the same state.  

HIMMATWALA, MAQSAD and TOHFA were films with the South flavour in Hindi while COOLIE and SHARAABI were Bachchan starrers that was real HINDI cinema. Maharashtra, at the moment, is tilting towards South when there bigger action films come. Hopefully this trend wont last too long. Maharashtra business is an issue as it contributes heavily and it needs to be back on track.
