While juggling careers in two industries — Bollywood and Hollywood — is “tough”, Ali Fazal is now facing a different type of conundrum. The actor’s projects in the West have come to a grinding halt due to the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America that began May 2. Earlier this month, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) joined them in the strike.

The 36-year-old says, “I was supposed to begin shooting for a show and a film last month in the US. But, all my projects have been indefinitely pushed. So, I’m not able to green-light anything in India, either. Even (actor) Johnny Depp’s film was pushed, main kya hoon? I have (director) Anurag Basu sir’s Metro.... In Dino in India, which I started.”

Adil Hussain is a member of The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and is standing in solidarity with the ongoing strike as he “believes in the reasons” the actors and writers are protesting for. He adds, “This has delayed my work but it is very legitimate. Hollywood can’t function till the big studios accept their demands.”

While the 59-year-old’s plans in the West have gone for a toss, he’s looking at the bigger picture: “Due to the strike, I have got some time to spend at home with my family. But that’s not the case for those in need of money. I hope it gets resolved soon.”

It has delayed my work but it’s a legit cause: Adil
