According to noted actor-director Seema Pahwa, abuse and nudity are not entertainment. She makes this statement in reference to the already-debated subject of uncensored bold content in the digital landscape.

The multi-award-winning actor, who has done several projects, including Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), explains, “A family should be able to sit and watch [content]. But abuse makes me uncomfortable. Iski zaroorat nahin hai. Isse pehle bhi cinema banta tha, naatak hote the. We never needed all this for entertainment [earlier].”

The 61-year-old, who recently directed an anthology series for a streaming platform, adds, “Jo bhi aaj ho raha hai, usko main entertainment ka naam nahin dungi. I would never want to do stuff like that, which a common man can’t watch at home with everyone.”

Pahwa cites an example of how clean humour gets more attention, saying, “Ismat Chughtai (novelist) ki kahaaniyaan jab stage par enact hoti hain, log hans hans ke pagal ho jaate hain. The language used in them is so beautiful.”
