After director Sudipto Sen, it’s now the producer of The Kerala Story, Vipul Shah’s turn to react to actor-politician Kamal Haasan calling their film “propaganda”.
The 55-year-old says, “Kamal ji is too senior for me to debate. All I’d request of him is to go and see the film; [once he has seen it], I can call him and we can discuss it. If this is what he felt without seeing the film, then we respect it.”
About the section of society that has been “discrediting” the film, which deals with religious conversion of women from Kerala by ISIS, Shah says, “They said it is ‘anti-Muslim or anti-Islam’. What would you say this guy’s (recent Delhi murder) religion was? Would you address him [just] by his religion? No! You don’t attach any religion or community to such a guy, and that’s what we have been saying about our film.”
A Message for girls
A video (the CCTV footage of the recent Delhi murder) has been seen by almost everyone in the country. Our film actually wants to expose people like him. Every girl should take care of herself and not fall into the trap of such guys; that’s the message of our film.
