‘THERE ARE CAMPS AND PEOPLE’S LOYALTIES DIFFER BASED ON THAT’

In her recent interviews, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas made shocking revelations about camps in Bollywood and her unsavoury experiences with that side of showbiz. Now, actor Taapsee Pannu, who recently completed 10 years in the Hindi film industry, has a similar story to tell.

“Yes, Bollywood camps aren't something that people don’t know about. It’s been there forever. People’s loyalties differ based on an actor’s friend circle or a certain agency or group that they’re a part of,” says the 35-year-old.

Holding grudges or being “bitter”, however, is not her thing. “Everyone should have the right to choose who they want to work with or have in their films. I can’t blame them for thinking about their careers,” notes the Blurr and Dobaaraa (2022) actor.

Pannu says she was always aware of the unfairness that exists within the system. “I always knew it was going to be biased. So, why crib about it now?” she asks, adding, “The tide is going to be against you most of the time. And if you still decide to be a part of it (showbiz), then it’s your choice and you can’t complain about it later.”

The Haseen Dillruba (2021) actor finds courage and solace in the knowledge that life, in general, is biased toward everyone in some way. “I don’t know many professions where camps and favouritism do not exist,” notes Pannu, adding that one has to keep proving themselves.

“It’s not like you have one successful film and the next 10 years are sorted. People who come to this industry with no background have to consistently keep doing good work to have a standing of their own,” she wraps up.
