Just Ajay Devgn Casually Playing 'Double Role' On Bholaa Sets
Box Office India Trade Network

BHOLAA has finished with collections at a little over 80 crore nett but this film should really have done better. The film had decent reports at an exhibitor level but this was not reflected in the box office collections of the film. So, obviously something went amiss.

BHOLAA was a rural action film which have huge potential but with the film being shot with a green screen background, then that rural look and feel goes from the film and starts to look fake. Maybe, this makes it tougher for the audience to connect. If its a period or sci fi, then its different as that world has to be created but BHOLAA is set in present times. The same film shot on real locations with this type of action would be a different kettle of fish. Yes there can be logistics involved and a bigger budget and generally maybe tougher to make it outdoors but that's where the reward lies.

Imagine the all time classics like MOTHER INDIA, SHOLAY, KRANTI and GADAR shot with a green screen or even more recent blockbusters like BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN or DANGAL. This is not to say BHOLAA is comparable to these as a film but the way rural landscape looks real makes a big difference.

There is a also the remake factor as the original film would have got an audience on other platforms but whoever the actor was in the original he would not have been at the level of Ajay Devgn which further aids the film. Basically the film needed real locations and some relief in the heavy drama and this film would have done much more business. It may have even proved a HIT despite being a remake but with a fake look, it would have taken some feel out of the film and even disconnected the audience

The final business of BHOLAA is a as follows.
Week One -52,97,00,000
Week Two - 15,89,00,000
Week Three - 8,78,00,000
Week Four - 1,60,00,000
Week Five - 79,00,000
Week Six - 19,00,000
Week Seven - 3,00,000
Week Eight - 1,00,000
TOTAL - 80,26,00,000

The film did not do well in overseas but that was sort of expected and the film ended up with $1.82 million. The worldwide business of the film is 115 crore as it finished with 15 crore in overseas and 100 crore GBOC in India.
