The film 2018 is the biggest grosser ever in Kerala with collections of over 65 crore nett till date and may well close at around 70 crore. This film went out of its market on Friday in other languages and the results were a total disaster in Hindi circuits.
There were still some fair numbers in cities of South for the regional versions but the Hindi market is a totally different kettle of fish. The collections in Hindi were around 20 lakhs nett for the first week and although the national chains did not release due to an early digital release, the film managed to get close to 200 cinemas. Also a national chain release would hardly make a difference as when you see trailer you have to think why is it even releasing as some scenes look documentary type.
This film is the biggest grosser in Kerala ever. THE KERALA STORY, which is based in Kerala, had higher collections from just the three biggest cinemas in Pune over its fourth week as compared to the collections put up by the 200 cinemas of this film.
This situation is a week in week out thing for Pan India which has become a joke but the problem becomes when the media tends to only run the story when a film from South does well and there is no mention of the numerous duds. It will be the same case for this film as the blockbuster success in Kerala may well be documented but nothing will be said of the mega disaster in Hindi. Now if a miracle had happened and somehow this film even got decent collections, it would have been a victory and there would have been the domination of South driven agenda.
