IB 71 has done low business of 1.75 crore nett on day one. But in the present-day scenario, it is actually pretty respectable as it comfortably beats the likes of AN ACTION HERO, KUTTEY and GUMRAAH, all of which probably had more awareness. All these three films were under 1.25 crore nett.
The numbers are also better than KHUDA HAAFIZ CHAPTER 2 - AGNI PARIKSHA which was the last theatrical release of the same male lead Vidyut Jammwal. KHUDA HAAFIZ CHAPTER 2 - AGNI PARIKSHA had collected around the 1.25 crore nett when released last July. The numbers have also come when THE KERALA STORY is running riot and also they are just 80 odd lakhs less than a major film like SELFIEE.
Looked at it from the film prospective, it probably needed a better opening day number as its difficult for these type of films to run for long unless the content really connects. The COMMANDO franchise which the male lead Jammwal is most known for hit 21 and 32 crore in the last two parts. So in the case of IB 71, getting above the 21 crore nett is probably the result which is respectable.
The other release of the week with some awareness was CHATRAPATHI but it could not do much as it collected under 50 lakhs nett. There was little face value for the film though it had some promotion for. The plus was an attempt to make a rural action film but it smelt and felt like a South Indian film. The films that work from South India have to create a world where that smell is not felt. There is an exception like KANTARA but that appealed for cultural reasons in a state or two. CHATRAPATHI had a look of a regular South film and the face was not even known compared to some other South actors.
