Sonam to deliver spoken word at King Charles III’s coronation concert

Sonam Kapoor is all set to share the stage with icons like Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Tom Cruise, among others, at King Charles’ Coronation Concert on May 7.

The actress has been invited to deliver a spoken word piece at the concert, where she will be introducing Steve Winwood and the exclusive Commonwealth virtual choir at the Windsor Castle, United Kingdom. On May 6, the coronation of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will be held at Westminster Abbey, followed by a celebratory concert the next day.

Sonam said, “I am honoured to join the Commonwealth virtual choir for this ceremony, celebrating His Majesty’s love for music and art,” adding, “It’s a momentous occasion.”

Introducing them, Sonam will be the only Indian celeb to be present at the event, which will feature artistes such as Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and stars including Tom Cruise and Sir Tom Jones appearing via video message.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is set to be the only Indian celeb at King Charles III’s coronation concert on May 7. The actor has been invited to deliver a spoken word piece at the event, which will be held at Windsor Castle, UK, a day after the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Ahuja’s piece will serve as a prelude to the virtual musical performance by choirs, duos and solo artistes from the 56 Commonwealth countries. Musician Steve Winwood will perform a modern version of his iconic song Higher Love, along with a 70-piece orchestra.

In a statement, Ahuja said she is “honoured” to celebrate the King’s love for music and art. “It’s a momentous occasion that signifies a commitment to a positive, inclusive and optimistic future for the United Kingdom,” she added. Other names who will be at the ceremony include singers Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Freya Ridings, and musician Alexis Ffrench. Actors Tom Cruise, Joan Collins and singer Tom Jones will reportedly appear via video message.
