The Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Pathaan grabbed headlines last year when the song Besharam Rang, from the movie dropped. A certain section of people slammed Padukone’s attire.
Back then, despite facing threats, criticism and boycott calls before the film’s release, Padukone, Khan and the makers of the film refrained from reacting to it. However, now director Siddharth Anand has come out in the open and reacted to it. He said in an interview to News18 that since “there was nothing objectionable in the film, the cast and crew was not scared”. He further called the Pathaan boycott calls “white noise”. The filmmaker also recalled how the colour of Padukone’s outfit came about during the shoot.
Anand said to the news portal, “When we were in Spain, I chose that costume randomly. Our team never gave too much thought to it. The colour was nice. It was sunny, the grass was green, and the water was blue and the orange colour looked good. We thought, when the audience would watch it, they would understand that our intent was not wrong.”
He concluded, “And when you are calling for a boycott of a star or a movie, you are not seeing how many people’s livelihoods are dependent on that movie. It’s very easy to say boycott that too without reason.”
