Sonali Kulkarni is facing flak over her recent comment. The Half Pants Full Pants (2022) actor spoke at length about how Indian women look for a well-settled partner and that they’re “lazy”.
“Bharat mein bahut saari ladkiyan aalsi hain. Unko ek aisa boyfriend ya pati chahiye jiske paas achhi naukri ho, ghar ho, assurance ho ki increment milegi. Par uss ladki mein itni himmat nahin hai ki keh paaye ki main kya karoongi jab tum mujhse shaadi karoge,” she said during a conversation with Bhupenddra Singh Raathore.
Some praised her for calling out “misplaced equality”, but a section of social media users was irked. “What she’s saying is women want equality when it’s convenient to them. When it comes to people who clean sewers, build infrastructure, do dangerous jobs, women want no part in that. #Facts,” said one user, as another added, “Twitter should invent virtual slap”.
“@sonalikulkarni the men you’re defending won’t stand up for your rights. They’re clapping for you because you spoke what they wanted to hear. Stop being a ‘pick-me’,” read another tweet.
