Missing is a standalone sequel to the classic film, Searching. Just like the predecessor, the sequel is also a ‘screenlife film’. Hence, all the scenes in the film are shown either on a computer or a smartphone screen. The plot is very intriguing and the numerous twists and turns, more so in the second half, keep viewers hooked. Also, to see how the makers have justified showing all the happening in the film on a phone or computer screen is a masterstroke. However, the thrill element is lesser this time and also the suspense, though unexpected, is hard to digest. Regarding the performances, Storm Reid (June) plays the lead part ably. Nia Long (Grace) is superb, in a supporting role. Joaquim de Almeida (Javier) is adorable and his scenes are crucial to the narrative. Ken Leung (Kevin) is decent. Megan Suri (Veena) was excellent in Never Have I Ever but here, she gets limited scope. All in all, Missing makes for a thrilling watch.
My rating - *** ½ out of 5!
