Tabu has fielded questions of all kinds in her career so far, ranging from those on money to her personal life. But, the one question that the actor finds toughest to answer is — what is the thought process behind selecting the films she does?

“I don’t put a lot of thought into it!” she tells us. “It’s been such a long journey... Usko backtrack karke decide karna is almost impossible. You can’t think, ‘Maine aisa kaunsa ingredient daala ki aisa hua’. There are so many factors, so many permutations and combinations. I really can’t encapsulate in a few sentences,” adds the 52-year-old, last seen in Kuttey.

Tabu, who has the Ajay Devgn-starrer Bholaa lined up next, says she just feels “lucky” to have been offered diverse characters and scripts. “I worked with directors and had fantastic creative exchanges. That’s important,” she adds.

Many actors have often said that their focus is just on doing good work and not so much on box-office numbers. As someone who starred in two of the biggest hits of 2022, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Drishyam 2, how does Tabu look at things?

“Box office ka sochke toh I don’t think koi bhi actor kaam kar sakta hai,” she says, adding, “Of course, everybody would love the film to do well, no doubt. But, yeh sochke nahin koi kaam karta hai ki main hit picture mein kaam kar raha hoon. Matlab, I can’t. Of course, if it becomes a big hit, amazing! But, the idea is to always do things that excite you.”
