The Tamil films THUNIVU and VARISU did very well on day one with similar collections though the latter did not get a release in Nizam/Andhra in its dubbed format. The main market is Tamil Nadu and there THUNIVU had a comfortable lead and basically it wins the initial race because of that although in other markets VARISU is generally ahead.

The release of two films meant shared collections in Tamil Nadu and the race is actually where both the film lands from here and they have the holiday period to push them. THUNIVU grossed 15 crore nett in Tamil Nadu while VARISU was around 13 crore nett. The combined figures were 28 crore nett which is highest ever for Tamil Nadu. the biggest BLOCKBUSTER of Tamil Nadu PONNIYIN SELVAN - PART 1 had taken an opening day of 19 crore nett in Tamil Nadu but was a solo release.

The all India numbers are 22 crore nett for THUNIVU and 21.50 crore nett for VARISU. Below is the territory numbers for both films.
