PATHAAN smashes all RECORDS and creates history on day one by setting a new first day record as collections look like being 56 crore in Hindi alone and a further 1 or 1.50 crore nett in southern languages. The collections coming from South are phenomenal which was expected but East is looking outstanding as well and these areas seem to have propelled the film to history. The collections are still coming and in and maybe the film could go higher but its at least certain that the records of WAR and KGF - CHAPTER 2 are gone.
Mumbai city and Pune have recorded remarkable collections and look to have taken Mumbai circuit to a big number even though there is underperformance in Gujarat/Saurashtra. This has all happened on a non holiday which is simple extraordinary. The film was always going to collect huge but no one really expected this especially as what has gone on over the last year or so at the box office.
South India has seen all records go for Hindi films with Nizam/Andhra being phenomenal and East India could see records of KGF - CHAPTER 2 fall in some areas which was simply historic there and PATHAAN is up there with that film. KGF - CHAPTER 2 had broken records in East India by leaps and bounds.
The performance is a little lower in CP, CI, Rajasthan and Gujarat but still collections are excellent. East Punjab could have been better also but again still has managed excellent collections. These circuits are made to look lower as there are some crazy numbers coming from other circuits. The Hindi belt of CP, CI, Rajasthan and Gujarat maybe a bit lower but UP and Bihar are outstanding. So, its likely there have been more protests in the likes of MP and Gujarat which has kept the business lower there.
The Hindi film industry is truly back today and PATHAAN shows that theatrical is alive and kicking and it also shows the potential out there with the right film. There may be agendas out there against the Hindi film industry but the reason they are there is because the industry is so huge and popular with an insane reach which no industry in India can even comes close. This has been built over generations. The last decade or two has seen a lot of content with limited reach which has to change and lets hope PATHAAN shows the way forward.
--------------------------------------------------------
The box office of PATHAAN and AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER has also killed all theories of lower ticket pricing which were more in the media than within the industry. Cinema is a premium product and exhibitors and distributors need the product and when its there, pricing does not matter. When its not there, then today nothing can save it.
--------------------------------------------------------
PATHAAN has smashed records in India and its the same story overseas as the film is possibly looking at a $4.5 million opening day which is far far ahead of anything seen before and pretty much puts the film in line to be the highest grosser ever in overseas in its original format. It will be no surprise if the final overseas number goes higher.
The collections are still coming in but North America will easily close over the $1.5 million mark while the crucial market in Gulf has done the job and it is sure to be over $1 million. Its likely in two days that the film will become the highest grossing Hindi film in Gulf post the pandemic.
The worldwide figures for the opening day are over 100 crore and it is the first ever century in a day across the world with worldwide GROSS collections ranging anywhere between 100-110 crore. These numbers are of one SINGLE DAY and not two days of Gulf or other markets where previews are held. It's ONE GENUINE SINGLE DAY. The overseas clout of Shah Rukh Khan comes to the fore with the right film and pretty much confirms that Shah Rukh Khan is number 1-10 in Overseas and this has been the case for more than 25 years now.
--------------------------------------------------------
PATHAAN has put up insane collections in East India with the collections coming out of West Bengal and Assam being simply mind boggling. KGF - CHAPTER 2 had set records in this side of the country by a good margin. Now, PATHAAN has just torn those records apart and it has done it on a non holiday while KGF - CHAPTER 2 was a holiday.
West Bengal is a Shah Rukh Khan crazy circuit; so big numbers were expected but to smash the numbers of KGF - CHAPTER 2 by 30% was pretty much unthinkable as West Bengal had not seen a 3 crore nett day first day before. And here PATHAAN is flirting with an incredible 4.50 crore nett on a non holiday.
The other mad record is in Nizam/Andhra where the circuit is looking at a possible 7 crore nett total with 6.50 crore nett already done and this includes the Telugu format. It remains to be seen how the break up is but the Hindi version has done over 5 crore nett for sure. The Nizam side of the circuit has huge collections.
The collections of PATHAAN and KGF - CHAPTER 2 in the Eastern circuits are as follows. A couple of circuits for PATHAAN are apprx as finals will come later.
West Bengal
KGF- Chapter 2 - 3,33,00,000
Pathaan - 4,50,00,000 apprx
Bihar
KGF- Chapter 2 - 2,15,00,000
Pathaan - 1,91,00,000
Assam
KGF- Chapter 2 - 81,00,000
Pathaan - 1,20,00,000 apprx
Odisha
KGF- Chapter 2 - 1,59,00,000
Pathaan - 1,26,00,000
TOTAL (East India)
KGF- Chapter 2 - 7,88,00,000
Pathaan - 8,87,00,000 apprx
--------------------------------------------------------
The growth for PATHAAN on the second day will probably be muted in the South as the first day was out of this world and even an inconsequential circuit for Hindi films like Kerala put up a crazy 1.22 crore nett total. Nizam/Andhra and Mysore were extraordinary.
