Tanishk: O Saki Saki was a good recreation, but it was a challenge

It was in 2019 that the Nora Fatehi-starrer O Saki Saki, from Batla House, was dropped. Three years later, the song’s popularity continues to soar, having now found several takers on social media, too. The hook step of the song is being recreated for Insta Reels by users in India and abroad. And its composer, Tanishk Bagchi, is glad to see it top trend charts.

Talking of the song, which is a remake of the 2004 track of the same name, the 41-year-old says, “It was a good recreation. But, it was a challenge... Now that it is picking up on Reels, I’m very excited. Nowadays, Reels can be very surprising, like how Kala Chashma (Baar Baar Dekho, 2018) went viral sometime back.”

However, for Bagchi, any recreation is meant as a tribute: “When I recreated O Saki... I made it a point that it sounds like the old track, but with a bit of masala, so that people dance to it.”

And he feels that’s exactly what people are looking for these days — good songs to dance to. “People combine old and new songs for that feel, so they can make reels and trends out of it. And, it is working,” he says, adding, “On social media, only 15 seconds of a song goes viral. But, it is about what they’re doing in a song. The dance step is what works.”
