THE TIMES OF INDIA (November 11, 2022)

New Delhi: Reserving its order on the bail plea of actor Jacqueline Fernandez, a Delhi court on Thursday asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) why the agency had not arrested her earlier, reports Vineet Upadhyay.

“Why did you not find sufficient material to arrest her? Why is there a different yardstick for different people?” said additional sessions judge Shailendar Malik.

Fernandez had applied for bail in a money laundering case, that also involves conman Sukesh Chandrashekar. The actor was granted interim bail on September 26. The order is likely to be pronounced on Friday.

Delhi’s Patiala House court will pronounce today its order on whether to grant bail to actor Jacqueline Fernandez in the Rs. 200 crores money laundering case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekar. Special Judge Shailendra Malik, who had earlier granted Fernandez interim bail, reserved the order for today after hearing arguments from lawyers appearing for the actor as well as the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court will hear arguments on the charge on November 24.

The court on September 26 had granted interim bail to the actor on a personal bond of Rs. 50,000. On August 31, the court had taken cognisance of a supplementary charge sheet filed by the ED and asked Fernandez to appear before the court.

The 37-year-old has been summoned by the ED several times in connection with the investigation. She was named as an accused for the first time in the supplementary charge sheet. The ED’s earlier charge sheet and a supplementary charge sheet did not mention her as an accused. The documents, however, had mentioned the details of the statements recorded by Fernandez and actor Nora Fatehi.
