DRISHYAM 2 scored an excellent weekend with collections of almost 63 crore nett as the film put up very good numbers in single screens on Sunday. There were single screens in UP and Maharashtra that were showing more than the Friday and Saturday collections put together on Sunday.

This trend is prevalent with single screens when a non action/mass film scores big at the box office but with this film, its the number of single screens where it has done that and its hard to recall a film which had so many single screens putting up Friday plus Saturday on Sunday. The collections on Sunday at single screens in most places are better than the Sunday collections of BRAHMASTRA. BRAHMASTRA, for its size, had average collections at single screens.

The film will be a HIT and the Monday collections will confirm that but its really about how well the film holds up over the next two weeks and does it emerge a BLOCKBUSTER. The film collected less than BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2 in three circuits on day one but by the end of the weekend all these three circuits were comfortably better.

This means the trend is far better than BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2 over the weekend which itself had a very strong trend. The film is a huge boost to the film industry as the thought was a film in this zone was more for OTT now but here the numbers are simply outstanding. So theatrical can still score with smaller and medium films. The only trepidation remains can it be done without a franchise because the sort of numbers DRISHYAM 2 has picked up initially has a lot to do with the brand value of the film.
