KANTARA (Hindi) showed huge growth on Saturday as collections were in the 2.5-2.75 crore nett range which takes the business of the film to around 3.75 crore nett. The film went up around 150% and there was some business from the South in Hindi which was minimal on Friday.
The film is driven by Mumbai circuit which easily went over 1 crore nett while contribution from Maharashtra state is around 1.25 crore nett. The growth on Saturday means the film should get a run at the box office and Monday numbers have a chance of being better than Friday especially as drop in ticket rates will be minimal due to lower weekend rates.
A few South films like ROCKETRY: THE NAMBI EFFECT, KARTHIKEYA 2 and PONNIYIN SELVAN - PART 1 have got up respectable numbers in the that 20-25 crore nett. This film should really surpass those numbers going by the Saturday growth of the film.
The collections of KANTARA (Hindi) for the first two days are as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 3,75,00,000 apprx
------------------------------------------
KANTARA (Hindi) collected 7.50 crore nett over its first weekend with a good trajectory showing excellent growth on Saturday followed up by very good growth on Sunday. The numbers may seem low but for a dubbed Kannada film, these are actually good numbers as the film does not hold much appeal in most of the circuits in Hindi speaking areas.
The film has managed decent numbers across Maharashtra with Odisha also being strong. There should be a solid hold on Monday which can mean higher collections than Friday and that should be enough for the film to have decent run for a few weeks. If the film can get over the 20 crore nett mark, it will be a respectable result with a good target beating the 25 crore nett of KARTHIKEYA 2.
There have been other dubbed Kannada films in Hindi circuits post the success of KGF - CHAPTER 2 and KANTARA has already crossed the business of 777 CHARLIE which did poor and it will cross the 11 crore nett of VIKRANT RONA in the next 4-5 days. The film also crossed the lifetime business of last weeks dubbed GODFATHER, which had a cameo from Salman Khan.
The collections of KANTARA (Hindi) for the first three days are as follows.
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,75,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 3,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 7,50,00,000 apprx
--------------------------------------------
The Kannada industry film KANTARA has crossed the 100 crore nett mark in India after the third weekend as it collects 103 crore nett so far. The film is already the third highest grossing film for the Kannada film industry and after KGF and KGF - CHAPTER 2 and could eventually challenge the numbers of KGF - CHAPTER 1.
The film has grossed a huge 85 crore nett in Karnataka in all its formats while another 18 crore nett has come from other places in India in all formats. The film is phenomenal in Karnataka and very good in Andhra Pradesh while business is decent in Maharashtra, Odisha and other parts of South. It will be the third 100 crore film for the Kannada film industry as it crosses that much its original Kannada format.
The film is probably is working in a big way in Karnataka as it probably has some local culture and local regional flavour and this would also have some takes in neighbouring states like Andhra and Maharashtra but the further you go from Karnataka then that culture does not work. The KGF brand was a different monster as it worked because of the mass elements and not culture which gives a wider reach.
The film has also done well overseas with business almost reaching $1.5 million; it is a Kannada only release there and these are big numbers for a film in Kannada. The worldwide GROSS collections of the film are 132 crore after its third weekend.
