‘BOYCOTT
CONCEPT IS
TOO NEW,
UNKNOWN
 FOR ME’

While every other movie is facing the brunt of boycott culture on social media, actor Rashmika Mandanna is choosing to just focus on doing good work and entertaining people. She finds the concept of boycott way beyond her.

“The concept itself is too new, too unknown to me, so I don’t feel like I have enough knowledge to comment on it. For me, it’s like, ‘Okay, I’ve done this film, and I want many people to watch it and enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it’,” shares the 26-year-old, who has several projects lined up.

Mandanna describes herself as the type of person who enjoys making memories while doing her work, instead of worrying about what may or may not happen to a film. “I’m in a happy space and having fun... I’m not pushing my way through and having a comment on everything. I am keeping my world safe and stress free,” she adds.

Addressing another reason that has resulted in the decrease in theatre footfall — films releasing on OTT platforms after theatrical outings — Mandanna says that as an actor, she always wants her theatrical films to work well. But she also understands that a film’s success depends on the concept and the audience’s decision.

“After the pandemic, people have embraced the web space which has all kinds of films... However, there are certain films that you would still want to watch in theatre because of the experience they offer,” elaborates the Pushpa: The Rise (2021) actor, who has Bollywood films lined up for release. Asked about her Hindi debut, she says that it doesn’t feel like one, as “the lines between languages and industries have blurred now”.
