On Tuesday, Sonam Kapoor and husband Anand Ahuja revealed that they have named their son Vayu. The couple welcomed their first child on August 20. Sonam took to Instagram to explain why they chose the name Vayu for their son.

“In the spirit of the force that has breathed new meaning into our lives. . . In the spirit of Hanuman and Bheem who embody immense courage and strength. . . In the spirit of all that is sacred, life-giving and eternally ours, we seek blessings for our son, Vayu Kapoor Ahuja.”

She further added, “In Hindu scriptures, Vayu is one of the paanch tatvas. He is the deity of breath, the spiritual father of Hanuman, Bheem and Madhav and He is the incredibly powerful lord of wind. Praana is Vayu, a guiding force of life and intelligence in the universe. All thedeity’s of Praana, Indra, Shiva and Kali relate to Vayu. He can breathe life into beings as easily as he can destroy evil. Vayu is said to be heroic, brave and mesmerisingly beautiful (sic).”

Along with the note, the actress shared a photo with Anand holding Vayu in his arms.

As he turned a month old on September 20, the couple shared a picture of the three of them wearing the same shade of yellow, and wrote, “In the spirit of the force that has breathed new meaning into our lives...In the spirit of Hanuman and Bheem who embody immense courage and strength...In the spirit of all that is sacred, life-giving and eternally ours, we seek blessings for our son, Vayu Kapoor Ahuja (sic).”

Explaining their thoughts behind the name, the couple added, “In Hindu scriptures, Vayu is one of the paanch tatvas. Sonam and Anand welcomed their firstborn on August 20. Making the announcement in an emotional post, they had written, “We welcomed our beautiful baby boy with bowed heads and hearts.”
