WILL CUTTPUTLLI IMPRESS AUDIENCES?
Akshay Kumar ended 2021 on a high with the super-success of Sooryavanshi. It was followed by Atrangi Re, in which he had a supporting role, and which also fared well, with its direct release of Disney+ Hotstar. In 2022, till now, Akshay has had three releases and all three of them – Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj and Raksha Bandhan – failed miserably at the box office. And now, he’s all set to have his fourth release of the year, Cuttputlli.
Cuttputlli is made by Bellbottom makers – director Ranjit M Tewari and producer Vashu Bhagnani – and it is the official remake of the Tamil suspense thriller, Ratsasan. Along with Akshay, Rakul Preet Singh, Sargun Mehta and Chandrachur Singh also feature in this flick. Earlier, there were reports that it’ll be called Mission Cinderella. The speculations were there for a long time that it’ll be directly released on Disney+ Hotstar. In May, there were reports that the makers might convert it into a web series. However, they didn’t do so and Cuttputlli will release in the film format tomorrow, that is, September 2.
Cuttputlli’s announcement and trailer launch took place just two weeks back. The actors haven’t done much promotion. Moreover, the two songs which have been released till now, ‘Saathiya’ and ‘Rabba’, haven’t been impressive. However, since it’s a direct digital release, it’ll manage to find takers. Moreover, Disney+ Hotstar has the biggest subscriber base and as a result, it’ll be one of the most watched direct-to-digital films in the last 2 years.
Meanwhile, there’s no major release in cinemas tomorrow as Brahmastra will be hitting theatres on September 9. The theatres will have to struggle to get footfalls this week. The re-release of E.T - The Extra Terrestrial, the extended version of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Hindi version of Dulquer Salmaan-Mrunal Thakur’s Sita Ramam and Idris Elba-starrer Beast would be the new releases but not much is expected from these films, business-wise.
