Actor Natasha Suri is not averse to the idea of embracing motherhood some day, but it would have to be “at the right time” — when she finds “the right partner to create a family with”. Busy with her work commitments, Suri has decided to freeze her eggs to keep the option open for having a baby in the future.
“When I first came across the idea (of freezing eggs), it resonated with me. It strengthens the possibility to conceive later in life by preserving the healthier eggs. It comforts and relieves me as a working woman and takes the pressure off,” Suri, 33, tells us, adding, “I don’t know why freezing your eggs has been made to look like a taboo for so long.”
The actor, seen in Virgin Bhanupriya (2018) and web series Dangerous, shares that this was a well-thought decision: “I discussed it with my sisters and friends, and they were all encouraging and supported me.”
She further says that women, who, for whatever reasons, can’t make up their mind to plan a family soon, should consider it. Suri also advises women to not give in to societal pressure of becoming a mother right away, and instead take a calculated decision.
“Women who are not mentally or emotionally prepared yet must explore this as an option,” she says, adding, “Freezing your eggs doesn’t mean that you have a child only if you get married. This option would always remain open for you, even without being dependent on anyone. It’s very important for a woman to be financially stable to raise a child with a man or alone.”
Ask if she’d consider adopting a child and the actor says, “Adoption is also a beautiful way [to experience motherhood] and I am open to that as well. But it’s best for women to keep all their avenues open by being perceptive and far-sighted. Strive to plan intelligently for the future.”
