Shamshera Review: Ranbir Kapoor's Period Film Is Thugs Of Hindostan-Level Bad
Box Office India Trade Network

SHAMSHERA had a disappointing opening day as it grossed around 10 crore nett. Although the scenario is not great at the box office, it was hoped it could be the best opening for original Hindi content this year and get towards the 14-15 crore nett mark. Before the pandemic, it would have been expected to go over 20 crore nett.

The film never just got going and collections were below the mark all over. The mass belts should have done better but apart from some centres of UP and Bihar, the collections were low. The film performed lower than SAMRAT PRITHVIRAJ across all mass markets and that was basically the difference in collections between the two films.

The best performance came in Delhi/UP but again the figure should be much higher for this type of action film in this circuit. The underperformance in Maharashtra is there again but this is happening film after film be it SAMRAT PRITHVIRAJ, JUGJUGG JEEYO and even BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2. The difference with BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2 was very good business in Gujarat/Saurashtra which led to a good Mumbai circuit number. Mumbai circuit for SHAMSHERA is around 2.75 crore nett.

The film could show better numbers on Sunday but even if collections are up by 30-40%, it will not matter much because that Sunday figure should have been the first day figure. The film also released in Tamil and Telugu and the collections were negligible there. When the local films are suffering in South then there is no chance for a Hindi in south languages.
