The team of the much-anticipated revenge action spectacle Shamshera is on a high. First, the teaser of the film hit it out of the park as it presented a never-seen-before Ranbir Kapoor pitted against a vile oppressor, Sanjay Dutt. Then, the trailer of the film generated a frenzy among audiences as it got a unanimously positive response.

Director Karan Malhotra is thrilled with the outpouring of love and reveals that the trailer is “just the tip of the iceberg”. He adds, “I’m overwhelmed and humbled by the response that we have got for Shamshera. It validates that Hindi cinema, told in its most genuine and authentic form, will always connect with the people who want to witness a big-screen spectacle. Adi’s (Aditya Chopra, producer) unconditional belief in my vision and an outstanding creative collaboration with my cast and crew has brought this revenge-action entertainer to life.”

Kapoor, who plays a larger-than-life quintessential Hindi film hero in this Aditya Chopra production — which is also set to be released in Tamil and Telugu on July 22 — is on cloud nine with the response to the trailer. “It is heartening and validating to see such positive responses. It has been intelligently handled as the trailer is not linear. It hardly tells you anything about Shamshera’s life,” he says.

The film, set in the 1800s, is about a warrior tribe enslaved by a ruthless general Shuddh Singh in the heartland of India.
