Raghubir Yadav feels this is a great time for actors, given that a number of mediums have opened up. Raghubir, who became a household name after he played the protagonist in the popular show Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne (1989), talks about his journey from the small screen to films and now in the digital medium.
He recounts, “In those days, a show had 13 episodes and yet people remembered the content for many years after that. Today, a TV show runs for years, but how many remember its content? After acting in Mungerilal and Amaravati Ki Kathayein, I switched to films. It is not that I did not get TV offers, but I never wanted to be part of shows where a character had to play a particular part for years. If a show is not finite then the message gets lost and there is no excitement in doing something which goes on for years.”
Raghubir, who is also a singer and composer, recently sung the title song of an animated show HaGoLa for children. He says, “I’ve always enjoyed singing and have given my voice for several ads in my career. Whenever I enjoy something, I pour my heart into it. This song was fun to sing and since it was about children, I enjoyed it.”
The senior actor is seen in many web shows these days and is glad that character actors are now getting their due. He says, “Earlier, it was all about stars shining at the box office, but with alternative platforms, it is easier for character actors to shine. Now it is is all about who performs well and not about who is the bigger star. That’s why I enjoy doing web shows. Today, the line between the lead actor and the supporting actor is diminishing and people are more interested in performances.”
