Kailash Kher believes that a singer should not be bound by language and music alone should be the driving force behind doing a song. He says, “Music has no language and it is not confined to any region. If a song touches my heart, I sing it,” he says.

Kailash, whose career spans over two decades, is currently seen as a judge in the reality show Swarna Swar Bharat and feels that the intervention of technology and the hunger for instant success are two of the biggest challenges that musicians are facing today. He feels that musicians should make a conscious choice to ensure that melody and purity of music are not lost in the numbers game.

‘FOR ME, THE SIZE OF THE REGIONAL FILM INDUSTRY DOESN’T MATTER’
The singer says, “The size of the regional industry, the film’s production value, its stars etc are irrelevant for a singer. All these things might be important for actors, but for a singer, the song is enough. We have seen numerous examples of songs becoming national hits from different regional film industries, irrespective of the films they are from.”

‘KUCH SONGS KE LYRICS SUNN KE TOH LIKHNE WALE BHI SHARMA JAATE HONGE’
Today’s music is driven by technology and social media, feels Kailash. He adds, “The desire to succeed instantly is forcing musicians to release half-baked songs. Nobody wants to work on their music beyond the first cut, and this is hurting the overall music quality. The southern film industries have managed to retain the quality even today. But the quality of music, especially the music that is coming out from the north part of the country, is consistently going down. And let me not even start talking about the lyrics. There are a few songs, jiske lyrics sunn ke toh likhne wale bhi sharma jaate honge.”
