The Tamil film BEAST has seen a record opening of around 27 crore nett in Tamil Nadu edging past the figure put up by VALIMAI a month or so back. The Hindi version of the film which is named RAW is a dud with collections somewhere in the 50 lakh range. Another film attempting to be a so called pan India film bites the dust. Although this is probably not right to say so early but with KGF - CHAPTER 2 released today, there is little hope.
The collections of the film are good to very good in other areas of South but it will be mainly about Tamil Nadu due to KGF - CHAPTER 2. Despite these huge openings, its never easy for these Tamil films as it has been seen by films like VALIMAI and ANNAATTHE which opened to huge numbers but could not go anywhere after the weekend. It remains to be seen if BEAST can do any better.
The last big film to become a BLOCKBSUTER in Tamil Nadu was VISWASAM released in 2019 and it remains the highest grossing Tamil film in Tamil Nadu behind BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION but that was a film from the Telugu film industry. VISWASAM released with a Rajinikanth film PETTA which itself had good numbers. So the potential is there for big numbers but the films post VISWASAM have not been able to sustain well.
BEAST features Vijay Joseph who is probably the biggest star in Tamil Nadu and so the record opening was probably expected and his other films have also put up huge opening numbers. The film needs around 100 crore from Tamil Nadu and it remains to be see how it fares over the next few days and there are very few Tamil films which have reached 100 crore nett in Tamil Nadu.
