Sanak (2021) actor Chandan Roy Sanyal is foraying into production with the psychological thriller Suzie Q, which sees him also take on the roles of writer and director. Under his banner, Chandan Roy Sanyal Pictures, he aims to present “quality cinema that resonates with my ideals of filmmaking”.

Sanyal, who has co-produced the project, says, “I’m thrilled to announce my banner’s first production. This is also the first time I have directed the feature film and have written the script for it too. Making a film is a lifetime experience, especially when it is your first. It takes patience, diplomacy and hard work if you want to make it on your terms and not [entertain] interference. Although it took me four years to complete it, I persisted.”

Speaking about the film, he says, “It is a dark psychological comedy. I think the genre chose me. I was writing something else, but ended up making this one. This was my last story, but this became my first film.”

The actor-producer and writer, who started his career in films as a rank outsider, now hopes to create a space to empower talent and bring interesting stories to the big screen. His first production and directorial venture is a step in that direction.
