'Pushpa: The Rise' advances release, averts clash with '83'

PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 (Hindi), which is now running in its sixth weekend, is beating the all India business of '83 which is in its fifth week with collections from just one city. On Sunday, PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 (Hindi) collected around 30 lakhs nett plus from Mumbai and its suburbs which is more than the all India collections of 83 on the same day. By chance, if the final collections of '83 hit 30 lakhs nett plus also, then today (Monday) PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 (Hindi) is sure to be ahead.

Both films are exactly in the same boat as far as the restrictions are concerned and PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 is now needing just Mumbai and suburbs to beat the all India numbers of '83 despite being a week ahead in terms of release. The figures of PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 (Hindi) are now even better than '83 in the elite Mumbai cinemas like PVR Lower Parel, PVR Bandra and PVR Icon Andheri. This was pretty much unthinkable on December 24th when '83 released as even if the film was not liked, no way would you expect PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 (Hindi) to be beating it in these sort of high end multiplexes at any point of time.

There is this theory going around that 83 failed as it did not get the youth on its side but again the collections chuck this theory out as the best collections have come from two cities namely Mumbai and Bangalore and these are driven by the youth audience. Then after this its places like Noida and Gurgaon and Delhi city would have been there also if it did not shut so early in its run.

This is not to say the film has scored here but comparatively it is better in these places which are youth driven centres. The business in cities where more people come in larger groups which includes higher age groups be it Ahmedabad, Jaipur or Indore (all strong collecting centres) have all performed very poorly. '83 has also held better in the centres driven by youth and so, there is practically no chance the film has failed because the youth did not turn up as mainly it is that audience which has turned up.
