'83: It Took Ranveer Singh '4 Hours Of Cricket A Day For 6 Months' To Become Kapil Dev
Box Office India Trade Network

'83 (Hindi) has collected around 45 crore nett in its first weekend as metros fared well while other centres did not perform. There were a few plusses like Mysore has done very well for the film and even East Punjab saw the best numbers for a Hindi film post the pandemic though they were largely driven by Gurgaon. The Gujarat belt saw a good jump on Sunday also but generally outside the six main centres and some satellite towns, the performance was poor.

There were many cinemas across India where a film like PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 (Hindi) in its second weekend was beating the first weekend numbers of '83 and its not as if PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 is doing a 50 crore nett second weekend or something. The opening day itself was a bit of a disaster in mass pockets with incredibly low collections in cinemas of UP, MP, Maharashtra and Bihar especially when compared to the metros.

The film is doing decent in Delhi city but will have no night shows in Delhi city from Monday as new restrictions come into play. Delhi city has a 10% contribution for this film and with no night shows, its likely to be hit by 2-3% on an all India level. The plus is that it got the weekend in and now the collections will be relatively lower so the affect is lower in terms of numbers

The film is the biggest disappointment since films started releasing in November. The first release SOORYAVANSHI had similar sort pressure and it just about passed thanks to extraordinary business in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Then most of the films were generally safe films and they never had to perform great in theatres and it was more about getting some numbers up and a decent little run if possible and ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH and TADAP did reasonably okay in that sense.

This was the second film which like SOORYAVANSHI desperately needed a theatrical performance and the makers hyped it up with the press and made it look like an event film which built up the expectations. But in no way did it look an event film from the trailer as it looked like one of those Saturday pick up films and that is how the audience saw it. But that Saturday pick up for '83 was no where near good enough.

The three day collections of '83 (Hindi) are as follows.
Friday - 11,96,00,000
Saturday - 16,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 17,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 44,91,00,000 apprx
