83: Prakash Padukone, Kamal Haasan And Others Relive Memories Of World Cup Win
Box Office India Trade Network

'83 (Hindi) has had a decent first day of around 12 crore nett. The film has scored well in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore. These cities have the presence of the most high end premium multiplexes which has helped. The collections in some of these cities are just 10-20% behind what SOORYAVANSHI did on a national holiday

But its a totally different story in the circuits as business is pretty dull be it Punjab, UP, Rajasthan Gujarat, MP or Bihar. In fact the collections in a CP Berar are not much better than last weeks dubbed film PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01. Still the overall number can be called decent as its Christmas period and there is potential for huge growth on Saturday and this gives the film chance to get a good numbers over the weekend. If there was no holiday period then this number would be low for a film of this magnitude.

The film had huge hype but the trailer of the film was not too exciting and the opening is probably at the level of the trailer though you expect the hype to push a holiday release a further 10-20%. The hype has maybe worked in a few cities but the rest have come as per the worth of the film.

The business is better in the South with Southern circuits having good numbers but on the other side Central India is dull with poor numbers in Rajasthan, CP Berar and CI. Mysore has good numbers while the numbers for TNK are very good. They are three times better than SOORYAVANSHI in Tamil Nadu/Kerala but this circuit hardly matters for a Hindi film and actually its sometimes better if a film does not do well here as it means more important circuits not faring well.

'83 (Hindi) is about the trajectory and it could see huge jumps on the national holiday for Christmas on Saturday as even on a normal Saturday these type of films for the big cities and which don't quite open well enough can go up 40-50% and here its a national holiday.

But it will depend on the growth of the biggest twenty cities after the metros as the film has to work for these for the huge growth to materailise because only metro growth will not be good enough. It remains to be seen where '83 goes over the weekend but huge growth on Saturday is a must.

'83 was also released in dubbed languages in South but the collections from these will not be a lot though it was a healthy 375 cinema release down South in languages. this may add around 50 lakhs odd.
---------------------
The final numbers of 83 (Hindi) came in less than 12 crore nett as Maharashtra and UP came in insanely low as Mumbai should have hit 4.50 crore nett and Delhi should be 3.25 crore nett. But the two states of UP and Maharashtra just did not collect while Delhi NCR and Mumbai city did pretty well.

There could have been an excuse of collections getting hit by the Omicron Coronavirus variant which is leading to restrictions in places but in both Maharashtra and UP (limited cinemas), the Telugu dubbed film PUSHPA: THE RISE - PART 01 is doing fine.

The collections in South remain pretty good but the Tamil Nadu numbers in the morning included the Tamil version which has done decent business of around 40-45 lakhs nett but as mentioned before, these places doing well with core markets poor spells trouble.

The film could have still got away with the sub 12 crore nett number if the Saturday growth was there. There is growth there but not the type that comes on a national holiday. The growth is more like a a regular Saturday. But the only difference is that on a regular Saturday, you can go up another 30-35% on Sunday but this will not happen for '83.
