HONSLA RAKH has become the first film to hit the $2 million mark in Canada post the pandemic. There is also CHAL MERA PUTT 2 also which has crossed $2 million but some of the business came before the pandemic while HONSLA RAKH was released after.
HONSLA RAKH is now the fourth highest grossing Indian film in Canada and still running. Only five films have crossed the $2 million mark and they are PADMAAVAT, DANGAL, CHAL MERA PUTT 2, HONSLA RAKH and PK. In the top ten films in Canada, there are six Hindi films and four Punjabi films.
The Canadian market is dominated by the Punjabi community and so there is a strong presence of Punjabi films. The numbers also show that Diljit Dosanjh is the biggest Indian star in Canada as he has three films (HONSLA RAKH, GOOD NEWWZ and SHADAA) in the top ten which is more than anyone else. PADMAAVAT dominates with a huge number of $2.8 million and is almost 30% more than the next film Dangal.
The top ten grossers in Canada area s follows.
1. Padmaavat - $2,800,000
2. Dangal - $2,220,000
