Talwar accused Singh of being physically and emotionally abusive, having multiple affairs and lying about their wedding
BOMBAY TIMES (August 5, 2021)

Yo Yo Honey Singh’s wife Shalini Talwar has filed a case under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act seeking protection and other reliefs. Talwar, in her complaint against Singh and his family, claimed she was driven out of the singer’s home. Sources say that she was thrown out of the house in March, and again in June, when she returned to collect her belongings. On August 3, the Tis Hazari Court passed an interim order in favour of Talwar, restraining Singh from disposing of their jointly-owned property and his wife’s stridhan (the gifts, movable and immovable like property, received by a woman in her lifetime, as per Hindu law), etc.

Advocate Sandeep Kapur, who appeared on behalf of Talwar, says that she has been subjected to numerous incidents of physical, verbal and emotional abuse at the hands of her husband and his family members. In her 120-page application, Talwar has listed specific details about his abusive behaviour from their honeymoon in Mauritius, to his affairs, and how he lied in public about their marriage. She states that around the time of their wedding, the singer’s career started to take off and he was popularly getting to be known as ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh’. His attitude changed towards her, and he became “rude, brash, aggressive, contemptuous and disrespectful”.

Talwar alleges that Singh “began having frequent casual sex with multiple women” when he was travelling and “to further his sexual intents and illicit relationships, never disclosed to the public (that he was married)”. She adds that in 2011 — the same year she got married to Singh — when somebody who was present at their wedding circulated their wedding picture, Singh panicked and mercilessly beat her, accusing her of releasing the photos. His digital media team portrayed it as a movie still, and not a real wedding photo.

Singh has been issued a notice to appear in court on August 28.

Married for a decade, the rapper’s wife has accused him of abuse and infidelity
Rishabh Suri (HINDUSTAN TIMES; August 5, 2021)

In what has come as a shock for his fans, singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has been accused of alleged domestic violence by his wife, Shalini Talwar. News spread like wildfire on Tuesday, when it came to light that she had filed a case under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, seeking protection and other reliefs.

In a complaint, (a copy of which is with HT City), Talwar has alleged “numerous incidents of physical, verbal, mental and emotional abuse”, by Hirdesh Singh (the rapper’s real name), his parents and his sister. Talwar has also accused him of alcoholism and adultery.

Singh got married in January 2011, and in 2014, he introduced his wife to the world on a reality show.

Singh and Talwar were contacted for comments, but they refused. Meanwhile, according to a source, at the time of going to press, the family plans to issue a statement. However, Singh’s manager tells us there are no plans for a statement from his side anytime soon.

‘HE WAS DEPRESSED’
A source close to the couple reveals that Singh loved Talwar a lot. “He never had an affair. He was bipolar. She supported him a lot. He was depressed that they weren’t able to have a child,” the source says, adding that he had taken to the bottle: “Musicians are mostly inside studios. Nasha karte hain, music banate hain, and repeat.”

SHOCKED ACQUAINTANCES
People who have been around the singer are taken aback by the news. Lil Golu, who has collaborated with Singh on songs such as Isse Kehte Hain Hip Hop and First Kiss, finds it “shocking” but is clueless about the truth. Singer-rapper Indeep Bakshi, who has also known Singh, says their conversations were only about music. “There hasn’t been any talk about his wife being troubled or the family being unhappy. When one is in limelight, everything becomes bigger. Of course, if something is wrong, it’s wrong... Baat dono side se honi chahiye,” he adds, hoping for fairness.
