With Tiger Shroff going behind the mic for Vande Mataram, director Remo D’Souza charts out how they pulled off music video with 50 background dancers amid restrictions

Tiger Shroff is increasingly feeling at home behind the mic. After making his singing debut with Unbelievable last year and following it up with Casanova, the actor has attempted his first Hindi song, Vande Mataram. When it came to creating the music video, he fell back on frequent collaborator and A Flying Jatt (2016) director Remo DSouza. The director admits that filming the single amid the current restrictions was a challenge.
The two-day shoot was conducted in Worli village and a Bandra studio in the last week of June. “We had intense rehearsals before [we took the project on floors]. We followed all necessary protocols. To shoot in the narrow lanes of a village is difficult enough; it [became all the more] challenging in the post-pandemic world."
"Thankfully, everything went off smoothly,” says D’Souza. Producer Jackky Bhagnani and he were keen to mount the single on a grand canvas. Though the cast and crew had to be slimmed down for safety reasons, D’Souza says they have not compromised on their vision. “We shot with 50 dancers. I was overwhelmed when Jackky made me hear the song; my vision was to show our love for the country in the most honest way. Tiger can pull off anything, and makes everything look easy on screen.”
Bhagnani’s long-standing wish of creating a patriotic track has been fulfilled with Vande Mataram, which is composed by Vishal Mishra and penned by Kaushal Kishore. The producer says, “I strongly believe in the power of music and its impact on people. We started working on this song with Vishal almost two years ago. Tiger has earnestness in his voice that resonates with the listeners.”
