On Shruti Haasan’s birthday on January 28, the news of her signing her first project of this year was made public. She will be seen opposite Prabhas in Salaar, which is being helmed by Bengaluru-based director Prashanth Neel. It is learned that the pan-Indian film began shooting earlier this week and Shruti joined the team on Friday.

A member from the film team reveals, “This is going to be Shruti’s first film with Prabhas, as well as her first pan-Indian film. We are delighted that she is on board. While it is too early to reveal anything more about her role, she has an almost 50-day schedule for the film.”

Meanwhile, Shruti is excited that she begins the year with a new project. In fact, sometime last year while in conversation with us, she evinced an interest in working with talent from the Kannada film industry. She said, “As far as acting in Kannada films goes, I would love to do that. I know about the industry, as my father (Kamal Haasan) loves the Kannada film industry. He’s spoken so much about it to me. But, it is not like checking a box of languages and industries. For me, it is about checking the box of different characters I get to play.”
