The Mumbai/Thane belt has seen the best collections since the
reopening of cinemas with MASTER (Tamil). It is actually the best
response that any market for Hindi cinema has seen post Coronavirus. There
has been very strong footfalls even in some of properties of the
national chains with some shows going housefull (50% of normal
occupancy).
The turnout in Mumbai/Thane is far better than TENET or WONDER WOMAN 1984. Here, WONDER WOMAN 1984 did around 15 lakhs nett on day one in
Mumbai/Thane and MASTER (Tamil) could easily double that number or
more. The opening is also good in Delhi, Noida and Pune but Mumbai/Thane will form a huge chunk of the collections as far as business goes
in the Hindi markets.
The Hindi dubbed version of the film (VIJAY THE MASTER) opens tomorrow
(Thursday) which will get a bigger release across all circuits but its
not going to get the same response as the Tamil version. The film has
opened to the expected excellent response in the South with the home
market Tamil Nadu recording unbelievable opening numbers especially
considering only 50% occupancy allowed.
There have been two films in Tamil Nadu which have crossed the 20 crore
nett mark (SARKAR and BIGIL) and these films did it in normal
conditions. This number will probably be tough to reach but even being
20-30% short would be a phenomenal achievement. The film does have a
task on its hand for recovery as it has been seen since cinemas reopened
that the mass audience is coming out but families are reluctant which
has led to films not being able to have sustained runs but maybe this
film can turn the tide.
