Master Review: Vijay And Vijay Sethupathi Make A Winning Combination
Box Office India Trade Network

MASTER recorded a phenomenal opening day number in Tamil Nadu with collections in the range of 20-21 crore nett which is the second highest opening ever in Tamil Nadu behind SARKAR, which was a released on a national holiday. The film has fell just a few crore short of record levels despite releasing in the Coronavirus pandemic situation.

This opening has come in a different time with the pandemic and capacity restrictions. The actual collections of the film may well be higher as many cinemas would have have not played the film with capacity restrictions and allowed full capacity.

The film is the third 20 crore nett plus day in Tamil Nadu and all belong to the same actor Vijay but the achievement with MASTER is the biggest due to the situation today. The all India collections of the film are simply mind boggling as with Tamil Nadu, Nizam Andhra and Hindi circuits the figures add up to around 30 crore nett and there is Karnataka and Kerala to come.

The film collected around 8.5-9 crore nett in Nizam Andhra and a further 60-70 lakh nett in Hindi markets. The all India number of the film could cross 35 crore nett.

Below are the top NETT collections in Tamil Nadu. There have been a few changes in taxes in the state over the last 2 years so a film like KABALI was released in a tax free enviroment..
1. Sarkar - 23,55,00,000
2. Master - 20,50,00,00,000 apprx
3. Bigil - 20,16,00,000

---------------------------
MASTER collected a huge 35.50 crore nett plus on day one despite Coronavirus  restrictions in the country. Obviously the figures would have been better had it been a normal release with all markets adding, especially Kerala. The opening is the seventh highest ever for a South film after BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION, SAAHO, 2.0, SYE RAA NARASIMHA REDDY, KABALI and BAAHUBALI: THE BEGINNING.

The opening is the third highest ever for Tamil cinema after 2.0 and KABALI and if we include all films across India including Hindi then the film would be standing in 12th or 13th position. The results are extraordinary considering the pandemic and it shows the mass crowds are ready to come to the theatres when there is something which holds appeal for them. The Tamil and Telugu markets are leading the way; they may not be optimum but films can be released without the fear of not getting an audience.

The film has seen a very good turnout in Overseas as well with Australia, Singapore and UAE doing outstanding business. The collections of MASTER (all formats) across India are as follows.
Tamil Nadu - 20,50,00,000 apprx
Nizam/Andhra - 9,00,00,000 apprx
Mysore/Karnataka - 3,75,00,000 apprx
Kerala - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Hindi Circuits - 65,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 35,65,00,000 apprx
