Mumbai: Actor and MP Hema Malini on Sunday inaugurated a senior citizens’ centre in Andheri (west). Local BJP corporator Renu Hansraj said the centre was constructed using her corporator funds. “The place was encroached upon by drug peddlers and was a hotbed of crime. We faced a lot of resistance, but we got the place cleared with the help of BMC and police officials,” Hansraj said.

She said over 150 senior citizens turned up for the inauguration of the centre which will be maintained by a local NGO called Juhu Soul of Mumbai City. “They will conduct activities such as gardening, yoga, counselling for senior citizens etc. I take immense pride that we could retrieve this encroached place and turn it around 360 degrees for senior citizens,” Hansraj said. “Hema ji was so happy to see a space designed for senior citizens. She has expressed her desire to use this space as well,” she added. Local BJP MLA Ameet Satam was also present at the event.
