Mumbai: Shabana Saeed, wife of film producer Firoz Nadiadwala from whose Versova flat the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had allegedly found 10 gm of ganja or marijuana, was produced before the 8th metropolitan magistrate court on Monday, which remanded her to 14 days’ judicial custody. She was arrested on Sunday.

The NCB also questioned Firoz who said he has been staying separately from his wife. He also said that he does not drink or smoke, and is not into consumption of narcotics, officials claimed.

NCB officials said Shabana’s name figured among the clients of drug peddler Wahid Kadir Shaikh alias Sultan Mirza, who was arrested on Friday. They had allegedly recovered 702 gm of ganja, 74.1 gm of charas and 3.1 gm of mephedrone along with nearly Rs 1.7 lakh cash from Sultan. He allegedly was a supplier to several high-profile customers.

“During interrogation, Sultan revealed many names, including Shabana’s. He said that he has been regularly supplying her drugs for the past seven to eight months. Based on this information, we carried out a search of Nadiadwala’s house and found 10 gm of ganja. Shabana was served notice under Section 67 of the NDPS Act and after recording her statement, placed under arrest,” said an official.

Shabana allegedly told the officials that the ganja was for her personal consumption. “Though the seizure is not much, it has to be seen since how long she has been procuring drugs from Sultan and the money involved,” said another official. Firoz will be summoned again, if required, NCB officials said.
