After Mahesh Bhatt, producer Kumkum Saigal files complaint against Luviena Lodh on charges of extortion

Mumbai: Mahesh Bhatt’s sister Kumkum Saigal and nephew Sahil Saigal have moved the city civil court against defamatory remarks allegedly made by Luviena Lodh, wife of relative Sumit Sabharwal. The plea said that Lodh in a video had made criminal allegations against members of the family. The Saigals have sought the court’s directions to prohibit Lodh from making such defamatory claims online and also sought Rs 90 lakh in damages. The matter will be heard again next week.

The plea said that the offending video has received wide publicity, and so they have been defamed and suffered damage to reputation and goodwill. “The offending video appears to be a desperate and malicious attempt on the part of the defendant to settle personal scores with Sabharwal with whom she is involved in a matrimonial dispute,” the plea said. Advocate Prashant Pandey, who appeared for Lodh, said that the court has granted their side time to submit a reply. “I requested the court for transfer of plaint to Dindoshi court,” he said.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's sister and nephew on Wednesday moved the Bombay City Civil Court seeking a permanent injunction against actor Luviena Lodh from making defamatory statements against them, a written apology and Rs 90 lakh in damages.

Filed by Bhatt’s sister Kumkum Saigal and nephew Sahil Saigal, the plaint states that Lodh had uploaded a video to Instagram in which she has claimed that her husband Sumit Sabarwal (a relative of the Saigals) is in the business of supplying drugs and human trafficking, that Mahesh Bhatt is a ‘don’ and ‘operates that system’. In the video, Lodh claimed that the plaintiff’s were attempting to evict her from a disputed flat in Versova. The plaint also states that the video appears to be an attempt on the actor’s part to “settle personal scores” in a matrimonial dispute with her husband.

The actor’s lawyer Prashant Pandey told Mirror that the court had granted time until next week to file their reply in the matter, without granting interim relief sought by the plaintiffs. He said he would seek the transfer of the case to the Dindoshi Civil Court.
