After spending 25 years of his life in Bollywood, actor Bobby Deol admits that it has “not been a perfect journey”. “Nothing in life is perfect, but at the same time, it has been wonderful. I’ve seen ups and downs and that is why it is tough being an actor. It is not about the work you do, your work has to be appreciated,” he says. Looking back at the dark days of his life, Deol says “I was pitying myself. I wish I had not taken the support of the wrong things to numb myself. I’d never want to pity myself again. When you pity yourself, things go wrong.”
Clearing the air about the whole phase of “DJing”, Deol states that it was blown out of proportion. “I had gone to an event and they told me to say that I was going to play the music that night, and I said that I don’t know how to DJ. But they said, ‘no one cares, you just say you are playing the music tonight’. No one spoke about that incident for a month but after that, it was blown out of proportion,” says the 51-year-old actor.
Speaking about the insider-outsider debate, Deol says that the biggest example of an outsider is his father veteran actor Dharmendra. “I wont say it is easy for an outsider to make it but the number of outsiders who have made it big in the industry is a lot. It is difficult to be an actor. It is a ruthless industry. If you are an actor’s child, you might be given the first film, but that’s it,” he says.
