Mumbai: Actor Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik, while seeking bail from Bombay High Court for allegedly financing and supplying drugs to actor Sushant Singh Rajput, pointed out on Thursday that no drugs have been recovered from them nor do allegations against them pertain to large or “commercial” quantities of contraband. Rhea and her brother have been in custody for over a fortnight.

The duo said the “investigation is illegal for want of jurisdiction”. They submitted that the serious offence of ‘financing illicit traffic and harbouring’ under section 27 A of the NDPS Act must be read to relate only to “commercial quantity” and not to small amounts. Hence the offence would be bailable.

Meanwhile, a special NDPS court has allowed the Narcotics Control Bureau to visit Taloja jail and record statements of Showik and Sushant’s cook, Deepesh Sawant. In all, NCB has filed two cases and arrested 16.
